The Spayed Club (TSC), a well-established community-based non-profit veterinary clinic in Delaware County, PA (20 minutes from Center City Philadelphia), is seeking an experienced full-time or part-time veterinarian to join our Primary Care Clinic team. The ideal applicant will have strong assessment skills and the ability to practice high-quality medicine with an understanding that our client base has limited financial resources. This is a unique opportunity to serve veterinary needs in an underserved population while being supported by the organization’s mature endowment and grants.
TSC is unique in that it is a not-for-profit veterinary clinic. It is not an animal shelter or rescue organization, nor is it a clinic that provides just "essential" care for cats and dogs. It operates through grants that allow TSC to subsidize fees. Our client base consists of owned pets, cats and dogs under the auspices of rescues, and unowned community cats managed by local trappers and Trap Neuter Release (TNR) organizations. No animal is turned away, and no animal is euthanized because of capacity limitations or the inability for pet owners to afford care. We embrace the concept that a pet enhances one’s life and diligently work with our clients to keep their pets in their homes.
The Spayed Club is housed in a custom-built, 1-year-old veterinary facility in Collingdale, PA and contains 4 modern surgical tables, 2 dental tables, dental x-ray equipment, 3 exam rooms, and surgical and medical treatment areas. ClinicHQ, a cloud-based clinic management software, is used to record patient treatments and services.
TSC consists of a HQHV Spay/Neuter Clinic as well as a Primary Care Clinic. Both clinics provide services for client-owned animals, rescues, and TNR cats. TSC is equipped to provide urgent care that can be handled on an outpatient basis but does not have the capacity to treat & care for emergencies such as pets hit by a vehicle or those needing overnight care. We currently have 1 full-time veterinarian for the HQHV Spay/Neuter Clinic with a 4:1 tech to doctor ratio and 1 full-time veterinarian whose role is to oversee the Primary Care Clinic as well as provide medical and surgical care. In the Primary Care Clinic, we have a 2:1 tech to doctor ratio with a goal of increasing the ratio to 3:1. Currently, there is no weekend duty; we feel strongly in maintaining a good work-life balance.
We are seeking a veterinarian for our Primary Care Clinic with the key responsibilities of:
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions such as, but not limited to, wellness visits, treatment of vomiting, diarrhea, skin disorders, ear infections, eye infections, wound care, euthanasia for terminally ill animals, and monitoring & treatment of diabetes & thyroid disorders. These treatments must be performed at a high standard of care with an understanding that our client base has limited financial resources.
- Collaborate with our Spay/Neuter Clinic.
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with clients and fellow team members.
- Provide services and treatments with a compassionate and caring attitude towards animals and their owners/caretakers.
The following skills are not mandatory but would be valued:
- Evaluate and perform general surgical procedures such as spay/neuter, amputation, mass removal, various surgical ophthalmic conditions, and other procedures that do not require extensive in-patient hospitalization.
- Evaluate and perform high-quality dentals including digital dental radiography, scaling and polishing, and extractions.
