Job Description:
Responsible for development and maintenance of lab bioinformatic capabilities, including receiving the necessary training to carry out responsibilities, participating in multi-laboratory genomics collaborations, providing bioinformatic assistance to laboratory personnel, and serving as a liaison with other laboratories or outside vendors to facilitate submission of genomics samples and interpretation of genomics data.
Carry out an independent research project, with the expectation of generating first author publications.
The incumbent helps develop and manage budgets and coordinate a high volume of purchasing for the numerous projects. The incumbent serves as fiscal liaison with the various departments involved and ensures the appropriate distribution of expenses and serves as liaison with vendors. The incumbent will research, order, receive, and redistribute laboratory equipment, supplies, and reagents (tissue culture reagents, chemicals, plastic ware). This includes researching and comparing products and then negotiating with vendors for the best prices, as well as proper storage and disposal. Reports location of decaled equipment to the departmental contact on request for inventory purposes. Keeps a detailed inventory of both decaled and nondecaled equipment in the lab.
Train and oversee new undergraduate and graduate students, and ensure that laboratory personnel adhere to standard operating procedures.
Assist the PI in planning new research proposals and protocols. This includes: (1) assisting with the budget preparation by providing appropriate information about the required personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies; (2) recording, keeping, and assisting in the preparation of appropriate regulatory documents such as IACUC protocols, hazardous materials and biohazard reports, and other similar documents; (3) assisting the PI in determining appropriate time-lines based on the requirements of the protocol and the availability of laboratory space, personnel, and equipment.
The incumbent assists in coordinating the functioning of the laboratory by scheduling the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment. Maintains the laboratory procedures manual. Direct a regular maintenance program for all laboratory equipment. This includes researching and negotiating appropriate service agreements and the scheduling of all maintenance activities. Serves as contact for any equipment maintenance or scheduling problems that arise.
Responsible for oversight of appropriate storage and disposal of hazardous materials and hazardous waste (chemical waste, radioactive waste, infectious bio-hazardous waste).
Other duties as assigned.
Annual salary range: $65,000 - $75,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of experience, appropriate college course work may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in an appropriate area of specialization preferred.
Experience in fiscal/administrative/regulatory compliance required.
Experience as laboratory manager required.
Small animal model experience required. Virology experience required.
