The Department of Public Health is recruiting for Public Health Dental Assistants who provide technical assistance to dental professionals in the treatment of patients. Duties include maintaining and updating dental records, supplies, and equipment; assisting the dentist at chair side; taking and developing dental x-rays for diagnostic purposes; instructing patients in proper practices of dental hygiene and prophylaxis; sterilizing, caring for and arranging dental instruments, equipment, and accessories; and making appointments for patients.
These positions will be expected to travel and work in all three Federally Qualified Health Centers located in San Bernardino, Ontario, and Hesperia.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Basic Life Support Certification: Incumbents must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support certification.
- Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents selected for these positions must pass a background check which includes verification of employment history and education as well as a physical exam and drug screening.
- Physical Conditions: Must be able to balance, bend, climb, crawl, kneel, sit, squat, stand, stoop, turn, twist, and walk long distances both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions; hand and finger dexterity in both hands; ability to manipulate heavy-duty security locks and doors; reaching or working above and below shoulder level; normal vision, including color discrimination; normal hearing; and carrying up to 10 pounds.
- Travel: Travel throughout the County will be required as the incumbent will be expected to travel and work in all three health center locations in San Bernardino, Ontario, and Hesperia. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.
License: Possession of a current license as a Registered Dental Assistant issued by the State of California Board of Dental Examiners.

Certifications: Possession of a Coronal Polishing certification AND current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience: One (1) year of experience (full-time equivalent) performing clinical dental assistant duties which includes oral health education, charting of decayed, missing and/or filled teeth, and instructing patients on proper oral hygiene and proper nutritional habits.
*NOTE: Must attach legible copies of the following required documents:
- Current license as a Registered Dental Assistant by the State of California Board of Dental Examiners.
- Coronal Polishing certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
The ideal candidate will possess three (3) or more years of experience as a licensed Dental Assistant and computer experience with the following applications:
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Access
Experience with internet/intranet usage and an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system (e.g. Dentrix; EPIC) is highly desirable.
