Job Description
Under the limited supervision of the Senior Nursing Director of Medical/Surgical Services, the Neuro-Oncology Inpatient Nurse Navigator is accountable for supporting, training and maintaining the UM Capital Region Health inpatient Neuro Oncology Center of Excellence Programs. This role is integral to supporting the growth of the service line as we transform into the Health System of Choice for Prince George's County. The Navigator serves as the driver of high quality and efficient care for both the emergent and elective surgical and medical oncology patient population that we serve across Neuro-Oncology. A passionate, self-driven individual with excellent communication skills is necessary for this role on our dynamic interdisciplinary team at UM Capital Region Health.
Principal Duties:

- Using Evidence-Based Practice, works with medical and program directors on maximizing the patient care experience, expectations and outcomes through standardization of clinical patient readiness/optimization of care pathways. Participates in the development of Neuro Oncological Practice Standards including pre-op, post-op, and discharge orders/instructions.
- Searches for innovation and change assisting in continual advancement of the program as Cancer models of care evolve.
- Facilitates development and delivery of patient education materials and programs specific but not limited to oncology nursing practice, care continuum, treatment modalities, palliative care, psychological impact of cancer, as well as stroke management.
- Provides assistance and offers help immediately, including finding someone else to meet the request, if unable to do so him/herself. Introduce other staff to customers when a hand-off occurs and explain that the person will provide excellent service.
- Demonstrates commitment to excellent service recovery when a customer's expectations have not been met.

Qualifications
Licensure/Certification/Registration Required:
Current Maryland license in good standing as Registered Nurse. Attained specialty nursing certification in oncology nursing.
Basic Life Support - Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
Preferred: Chemo Oncology Certification
Education/Knowledge:
Attained Level: Bachelors of Science in Nursing
Preferred: Masters of Science in Nursing
Completed Course Work/Program: Chemotherapy Nursing Certification
Applicable Experience (years):
Required: 3-5 years
Preferred: More than 5 years
Three to five (3-5) years in inpatient oncology nursing. Requires current and ongoing knowledge of the developments in the field of neuro-oncology nursing to continually improve and enhance the current practices with advances in the field.
