PROVIDES DIRECT CARE TO WOUND HEALING PATIENTS AT THE ADVANCED LEVEL OF PRIMARY AND SPECIALTY NURSING PRACTICE.
- Facilitates new patient consultation and health history review
- Performs physical examinations and screenings of patients
- Orders and administers tests including bloodwork
- Reviews and interprets test results
- Diagnoses health problems
- Detects changes in patient condition
- Administers medications
- Operates medical equipment
- Recommends further treatment options or future appointments if needed
- Provides referrals to other practitioners when necessary
- Provides after-care/ongoing care information and resources to patients and their families
- Ensures patient records are kept up-to-date including test results, immunizations, condition changes, etc.
- Consults with other healthcare professionals as needed
- Delivers quality care while complying with company policies, safety regulations, and productivity metrics

ACTIVELY INTERFACES & ASSISTS IN MAINTAINING A COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIP. Maintains open communication between physicians, advanced practice practitioners, team members, management, administration, and other units and programs to ensure service excellence. Represents the Director when providing on-shift leadership and coordination to meet the immediate and changing needs of all customers. Reports changes of any type to staff and keeps other departments informed of developments affecting their function. Conducts monthly department meetings that achieve results. Allows staff to participate in problem solving. Confidently communicates department needs with superiors, peers, and subordinates. Effectively communicates management decisions to achieve understanding and acceptance.
COORDINATES WITH DIRECTOR IN MAINTAINING A SAFE ENVIRONMENT OF CARE. Adheres to OSHA, The Joint Commission, NJ Department of Health and Medical Center standards. Observes and maintains isolation precautions. Follows hand washing protocol. Utilizes appropriate resources in clarification of safe and effective use of equipment adhering to National Patient Safety Goals. Maintains a clean and clutter-free work environment. Ensures proper equipment utilization and storage. Checks expiration dates to ensure medication and equipment are safe for use.
COLLABORATES WITH THE DIRECTOR IN AREAS OF DAILY OPERATIONAL AND FISCAL MANAGEMENT. Anticipates the needs for staff efficiency according to volume variations. Works with staff to assist Director/Manager in ensuring that budget monitoring processes are in place and that appropriate action plans are implemented and adhered to. Communicates with Director regarding ways to reduce and control expenses, as well as to enhance revenues. In the absence of the Director, posts and/or approves payroll. Coordinates the ordering of needed supplies with unit associate and medical assistant; notifies the Director when appropriate.
ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY IN ANNUAL PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS OF UNIT PERSONNEL. Shares responsibility for writing and conducting staff Performance Appraisals as directed by the Director. Provides recommendation and documentation to director concerning the hiring, termination and promotions of staff members as well as monitoring, identifying and counseling personnel in job-related issues utilizing the progressive disciplinary process. Acts as a positive role model for staff by maintaining a neat and professional appearance and promoting professional nursing practice. Provides clinical and behavioral guidance to staff as the situation arises. Maintains professional competency through participation in continuing education.
PARTICIPATES IN PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT. Monitors, guides, supports and directs staff as indicated to achieve unit-based and organizational goals including TJC Performance Improvement Measures. Identifies processes which need change and refers them to the appropriate person. Incorporates evidence-based practice and performance improvement philosophies in all actions. Promotes customer service initiatives through personal example.
SERVES AS A CLINICAL RESOURCE TO THE HEALTH CARE TEAM, PATIENTS, AND THEIR FAMILIES. Acts as a mentor/preceptor. Facilitates and engages in effective problem-solving using available resources, including nursing staff, nurse managers, physicians, and other health care personnel. Serves on interdepartmental committees and task forces and acts as unit liaison as requested. Recognizes emergency situations and immediately institutes proper procedure. Manages situations in a calm and objective manner. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in use of emergency equipment and implementation of emergency procedures.
