Job Description:
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for administration of ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes in accordance with the prescription of the Radiation Oncologist and is accountable for the simulation of patients in preparation of radiation therapy, basic patient care and education.

Job Essentials
- Interprets and implements prescription and treatment plan as directed by the Radiation Oncologist, accurately completes, and charts all simulation and treatment summaries, and reports, documents, and delivers prescribed course of radiation therapy according to department protocols.
- Performs simulation procedures and prepares immobilization devices for various body parts, monitors patients' clinical progress according to established protocols, obtains accurate measurements, contours, and other information as needed for dosimetry purposes, and fabricates treatment immobilization devices as needed.
- Performs daily equipment warm-up and quality assurance procedures, evaluates and assesses treatment machine operations, recognizes machine malfunctions and reports them to the physicist, adheres to strict radiation safety guidelines, and performs procedures regarding quality assurance, emergency shutdown and guidelines that pertain to the operation manuals for equipment.
- Assists in clinical training and evaluation of student therapists if applicable, communicates clearly and concisely with all members of the health care team, patients, and families, practices effective verbal and written communication skills, and adheres to internal quality controls, organizational standards, and department policies and procedures.
- Is responsible for basic patient care during patient delivery, assists with patient education, observes, and monitors day to day clinical progress of patients for signs of treatment symptoms, complications or other medical problems and reports such to attending physician or nurse as appropriate.
- Provides accurate daily billing information for all treatment related procedures to office staff and is responsible for scheduling and treating patients in a timely and professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications
- Radiology Tech License from the State of Utah.
- Certification in Radiation Therapy from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
Physical Requirements:
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
