Major Duties:
- This Licensed Practical Nurse position is in the Nursing services at the VA Boston Healthcare Systems located at the Brockton location. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs direct patient care and participates in activities that support safety on the unit and enable the program to meet its general requirements. Vascular access tasks include assessing and managing patients with port-a caths, PICC lines, IVs, and performing phlebotomy. Other duties include transporting and sitting with patients to appointments on the Brockton campus, monitoring patients who have been admitted to the Virtual Safety Sitter Program, responding and providing crisis nursing care to patients during Code Blue events on campus, precepting nursing assistants, students and other licensed staff from the TTP and PBNR programs that rotate to the Vascular Access/Float/Transport Team, participating in educating staff as needed regarding vascular access devices and caring for patients with vascular access devices. The LPN must complete assigned duties/responsibilities, which involve performing standard practical nursing activities. The LPN must demonstrate knowledge/skills to resolve a range of nursing problems. The LPN must demonstrate knowledge of human behavior, motivations, and reactions to situations in the provision of nursing care, provide a safe environment and protect patients' rights, and recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations. The LPN must be aware of program policies, procedures, and directives that are in place for all VA employees as well as those that are unique to the specific program(s), and practice in a manner consistent with these policies. The LPN will review reports of a patient's condition and other pertinent data, using judgment in selecting the most appropriate application of procedures and guidelines. The LPN will demonstrate an ability to determine when changes in the patients' conditions are significant enough to notify the immediate supervisor for assistance in decision making and/or determining nursing care. The LPN will have the ability to make recommendations for changes in the treatment plan based upon observations, analysis of patients' condition and response to the current plans and other duties assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday with start times of 6:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. depending on needs of the department.
