(This position is grant funded through March 15, 2026.) The Safe and Healthy Climate Center at the Illinois State Board of Education supports equity, student learning, learning conditions, and the elevation of educators through its work to ensure the health and safety of students in schools in Illinois. Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Center, this position will lead work to advance ISBE’s strategic plan goals related to resilience and will execute specialized projects connected to social, emotional, and mental health in schools. The position will ensure the success of essential initiatives in Illinois that promote student resilience and belonging, as well as educator wellness and social-emotional competence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides communication, coordination and implementation in support of ISBE's resilience-related strategic plan goals.
- Coordinates and leads agency efforts pertaining to social-emotional learning, behavioral and mental health, and special projects, provides communication, coordination and implementation support for resilience-related projects under the direction of the Executive Director for Safe and Healthy Climate.
- Supports existing agency efforts in the Safe and Healthy Climate Center by acting as a team member in the implementation of whole child initiatives.
- Works with existing Safe & Healthy Climate Center management to provide supports, guidance and technical assistance regarding the Agency’s focus on various mental health and wellness initiatives across departments.
- Partners and collaborates with other state agencies and children's mental health stakeholders to advance shared statewide goals for improving the provision of mental health services and wellness supports to children and families in Illinois.
- Represents the Illinois State Board of Education in select external collaborations and meetings, demonstrating a high-level of professionalism and competence regarding student and educator wellness.
- Serves as a content expert within the Agency regarding school mental health and trauma-informed practices in schools.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or an Education related field, or, a Bachelor's degree in one of these areas plus five years of relevant professional experience. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
- Two years of experience creating, adapting, or executing mental health or social-emotional initiatives that promote student and adult well-being.
- Evidence of management of complex, large-scale projects.
- Communication skills - verbal and written.
- Research-informed strategic planning.
- Relationship building to drive results.
- Systems thinking to promote success.
- Personal organization and time management.
- Collaborative work and consensus-building with others in a variety of positions and roles.
- Completion of deliverables in high-pressure situations.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- License in a mental health related field, including but not limited to SSW-PEL, LCSW, LSW, LCPC, LPC.
