How you make a difference
The Mental Health Nurse Practitioner provides psychiatric consultation, diagnostic and treatment services to the identified patient population, including medication management and crisis intervention services, while working under the supervision of the Staff Psychiatrist or the Medical Executive Director. They ensure compliance with state and facility guidelines by maintaining required documentation to demonstrate compliance with supervision requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The Mental Health Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive assessment and treatment services, including medication management and crisis intervention.
They are responsible for monitoring medications and initiating appropriate therapies, as well as documenting all relevant patient care issues.
The role requires sensitivity to cultural diversity issues and providing individualized care that is consistent with the age and developmental needs of each patient.
The Mental Health Nurse Practitioner adheres to established policies and procedures for admission and transfer, and assumes responsibility and accountability for their judgments and actions.
They also provide input into facility committees and participate in on-call schedules if required.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
Experience
- Two (2) years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Psychiatric experience preferred and/or experience in a residential healthcare institution.
Licenses/Certifications
- Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the state of practice, as recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center Adult PMHNP certification.
- Must maintain CPR certification, and any other certifications (such as First Aid) required by contract.
