Spectrum Software Technology (SST) is currently seeking Lead Chemists for possible upcoming work supporting the Dept of Homeland Security. MS or Higher with 10+ years of experience is desired. Previous work with explosive materials is a plus but not required. Secret Clearance is a bonus. The position is based at the Transportation Security Lab adjacent to the Atlantic City International Airport, New Jersey. Partially Remote. *These positions are contingent on contract award*
Seeking Leads for the following areas:
- Production Lead: Must be able to demonstrate an ability to safely develop methods for executing and leading the synthesis, mixing and/or blending of pyrotechnic, primary and secondary explosive materials and/or chemicals at small (<5 grams) and large scales (up to 5 kilograms). Knowledge of production processes such as flow chemistry automated synthetic methods is preferred. Experience operating, calibrating, and maintaining various laboratory equipment under ISO process control that includes but is not limited to nuclear magnetic resonance systems and refractometers.
- Safety Testing Lead: Knowledge and/or experience with industrial chemical and mixing formulation for explosives ingredients, safe handling of energetics. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in techniques such as vibrational spectroscopy, particle size analysis, and sensitivity testing (i.e., electrostatic discharge, friction, thermal stability) for materials characterization and analysis. A strong background in thermal analysis, kinetics, and calorimetry of energetic materials/explosives using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and accelerating rate calorimetry (ARC) is preferred.
- Chemical Characterization Lead: Experience performing complex chemical characterization and testing of explosives and chemicals. Experience in analytical chemistry and analytical testing with a demonstrated proficiency in analytical techniques that include but are not limited to liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, Karl Fischer analysis, ion mobility spectrometry, mass spectrometry, microscopy, and surface characterization. Must be capable of independently performing routine and complex analytical testing for chemicals and explosives, including novel materials/formulations. Must demonstrate the ability to take existing and well-established analytical methods and adapt them to Homeland security-based applications. Must be familiar with design method validation/transfer protocols and conduct validation/transfer experiments.
- Quality Support Services Lead: Experience in analytical chemistry and analytical testing with a demonstrated proficiency in analytical techniques that include but are not limited to liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, Karl Fischer analysis, and mass spectrometry. Ability to work in a goal and team-oriented setting and handle competing priorities. Must demonstrate flexibility within a rapidly changing environment, effective communication with the team and customers, and high attention to detail.
