Under the general supervision of the Manager of the Telfair Pavilion, the Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammograms, needle localizations, breast ultrasounds, cyst aspirations, and needle biopsies using proper technical factors on adult and geriatric patients that are primarily female (occasionally procedures are performed on males). The Mammography Technologist applies principles of radiation safety and protection and is capable of evaluating radiographs for technical quality. The Mammography Technologist provides patient care essential to radiographic procedures and recognizes changes in patient's condition and responds to conditions requiring attention. The Mammography Technologist maintains accurate and retrievable records.

Core Job Functions
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patient being served. Demonstrates principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient populations served. Coordinates patient care needs with team members and other appropriate departments.
- Maintains aseptic/sterile technique during invasive procedures per policy. Anticipates needs and provides procedural supplies and/or equipment to the physician. Ensures time-out is performed and documented.
- Maintains national certification/registry. Is competent in the use of all departmental equipment and is able to perform all procedures effectively.
- Accurately performs QA on exams and enters patient history into PACS in appropriate status and time. Performs routine checks on PACS images and consults with management if standards are not met. Use of the transport system appropriately to ensure timely arrival/return of patients.
- Knowledgeable of Joint Commission, OSHA, FDA & ACR regulatory guidelines concerning the care of the breast imaging patient. Participates in quality improvement processes surrounding American College of Radiology Standards to achieve highest level of performance. Assures QA is performed as per guidelines and equipment is functioning properly prior to use.
- Accurately enters procedural documentation and patient charges per department guidelines. Areas of concern in patient history or on imaging are identified and communicated to radiologist to ensure proper action. Completes required documentation in department's PACS.
