Position Overview:
Responsible for leading the strategic, clinical, and programmatic direction of the Orthopedic Service Line across Sutter Health. This role is crucial in enhancing patient care and access, developing distinctive programs, optimizing financial and operational performance, and driving a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across all levels of service delivery. Will have direct oversight over service line physician section chiefs and medical directors, working closely with market-level leadership across Sutter Health ensuring excellence in clinical programming. Will serve as the clinical subject matter expert for the Orthopedic Service Line. Will lead and act in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Sutter Health.
This is a hybrid role with both work from home and onsite requirements. The successful candidate will live in the Sutter footprint.
Job Description:
EDUCATION:
- MD or DO
- MBA or MHA preferred
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
- MD-Doctor of Medicine OR DO-Doctor of Osteopathy of California
- Eligible for permanent, unrestricted medical licensure in California
- Requires current Board Certification through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, preferable with subspecialty fellowship training
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
- At least 8 years of clinical experience, with a minimum of 5 years in leadership roles managing complex teams within a large health system.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- National recognition as demonstrated through involvement in academic and professional societies, such as AAOS, AKS, AOSSM, etc.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, improving patient access, engaging in philanthropy efforts, reducing clinical variation, and implementing cost reduction strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership in administrative positions in Hospital and/or Medical Group settings. Or, demonstrated leadership in an Academic Medical Center setting.
- Proven record of recruitment and retention of talent
- Leadership experience in a large, advanced, complex health system is highly preferred. Experience within an integrated care system that includes multiple hospitals, a pluralistic medical staff, as well as an insurance product is ideal.
- A proven track record in improving quality and safety in a complex health system is required. Must be a leader champion of quality.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of current trends in health care, including physician hospital relations, physician practice models, access issues, quality improvement processes, clinical information systems, and the implications of changing health care environment for medical credentialing are essential.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adept at building relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including donors, community leaders, and healthcare professionals.
- A strong understanding of graduate medical education and experience in teaching/training orthopedic learners is preferred.

Pay Range: $167.10 to $267.37 / hour. Sacramento Valley Pay Pay Range is $142.77 to $228.44 / hour.
The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
