Salary range - $25.00-$30.01
We're seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for Emory Johns Creek Hospital, responsible for being a capable certified technician who cares about the quality of their work and ensuring the safety for all patients.
This individual will:
- Assist surgeons and nurses with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures in the operating room.
- Prepare the operating room for surgery by assembling routine supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment; obtain special supplies indicated by physician. Set up and operate a variety of specialized instrumentation, manual and powered equipment.
- Follow procedures for pre and post-operative accounting of sharps, sponges and instruments used in the surgical setup.
- Be accountable for the care and handling of instruments and equipment. Maintain inventory of sterile surgical supplies to ensure immediate availability.
- Operate sterilization equipment for the proper sterilization of surgical instruments. Follow established sterilization policy and procedures.
- Assist in evaluating various products, supplies and equipment pertinent to the operating room.
- Typical specialty areas include General, Less complex GYN, OB/L&D, Plastic, Minor Vascular, Ortho, and Ophthalmology -cataract. Assist in the preparation, transportation, and positioning of patients for surgery and provide for the physical comfort, safety and privacy during the intra-operative patient.
- Observe patients for symptoms which may indicate a change in condition; report significant observations to the appropriate member of the medical team for immediate attention.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the principles of sterile technique and infection control; practice appropriate procedures to maintain a sterile environment.
- Appropriately clean surgical instruments and equipment. Prepare tissue and other specimens for laboratory analyses. Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, preferred. Successful completion of a surgical technician training program or equivalent job training.
- Certified as a surgical technician or two years of experience in lieu of certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
- Ability to float and work independently in less complex specialty areas including General, Less complex GYN, OB/L&D, Plastic, Minor Vascular, Ortho, and Ophthalmology -cataract.
