Ocean State Equine located in North Scituate, Rhode Island is seeking a full-time associate veterinarian. Our hospital is 1 hour outside of Boston, 90 minutes from Cape Cod, and 3.5 hours from the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire – the perfect location for an adventurist. We are a 6 doctor practice with two internship positions offered yearly. Our ambulatory practice is 100% equine and our call radius includes Rhode Island, southeastern Massachusetts, and eastern Connecticut.
We enjoy a collegial, professional work environment. Primary care, emergency medicine, and sports medicine are the practice strengths and serve as the core upon which we plan to continue to grow the practice. With the completion of a new facility in 2018, our facility is equipped with 2 ICU stalls, 10 in-patient stalls, 3 treatment areas, stocks, an indoor arena with a paved jog strip, an operating room, and two induction/recovery stalls. Our surgeon performs elective surgeries two days per week and sees primarily sports medicine or elective surgery consults on non-surgery days. We are not offering critical inpatient hospitalization or after hours surgeries at this time. After hours emergencies are primarily referred to the nearby Tufts Hospital for Large Animals. Associate veterinarians are primarily ambulatory, though the hospital is available for haul-in appointments or outpatient emergencies as needed.
OSEA strives to improve work life balance and career satisfaction for our entire staff. Emergency work is shared on a rotating basis amongst associates and currently involves 1-2 week nights and 1-2 weekends/month on call. Holiday coverage is shared on a rotating basis. Once intern doctors are comfortable taking primary on-call, back-up support is provided as needed. All associates are expected to participate in mentoring interns. We routinely hold teaching rounds, imaging rounds, and wet labs. Associates have a technician for all appointments during business hours. Development of special areas of interest is encouraged. Special focus continuing education opportunities are also supported.
Salary is base-plus and is commensurate with experience and production. Emergency fees are paid 100%. Each veterinarian is provided their own vehicle, computer, and phone; equipment and assistants are shared between associates. Benefits include: health insurance stipend, 401K, long-term disability, dental and vision plans, liability insurance, continuing education stipend/time, cell phone compensation, licensure for RI, MA and CT, DEA licensure, and paid time-off. A fully stocked practice vehicle is provided and our clinic is equipped with a full complement of modern diagnostic and therapeutic equipment including: multiple DR X-ray machines, numerous ultrasounds, upper airway endoscopy, gastroscopy, PRP, Prostride, IRAP, and shockwave.
The ideal candidate is avidly interested in general practice, likes working with a close-knit team, and wants to live in the Northeast. Immediate opening available. Internship experience or 1-2 years of private practice experience is preferred.
