Job Summary:
Assists the GI team staff with Gastroenterology procedures and treatment of patients. Performs a variety of routine patient care, sterilization of equipment after procedures, and other clerical duties when needed. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. Builds rapport and cooperative relationships with members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assists gastroenterologist and providers to perform diagnostic and minor medical procedures, such as biopsies and the application of abdominal pressure when needed.
- Washes, inspects, decontaminates and maintains equipment following established infection control policies and procedures.
- Prepares equipment and supplies needed for scheduled procedures.
- Ensures patient safety in the preparation and provisioning of care related to but not limited to medications, procedures, infection prevention, fall prevention, including consistent use of two patient identifiers and procedural time outs.
- Assists in patient flow, providing support as necessary.
- Maintains general stock levels within the department.
- Reports safety hazards, accidents, and incidents, and unsafe working conditions promptly.
- Assists in orienting and training new employees, transporting equipment or patients.
- Performs other related duties as directed.
- This position knows and complies with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice in every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum six (6) months of experience as an Endoscopy or Gastrointestinal Technician.
Education
- High School Diploma OR General Education Diploma (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
- Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Technician Certification within 6 months of hire from Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution.
- Basic Life Support.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of medical terminology is critical.
- Demonstrated customer service skills, customer focus abilities and the ability to understand Kaiser Permanente customer needs.
- Highly effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills to include excellent telephone etiquette and an ability to manage a variety of patients' questions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Gastrointestinal Certification preferred.
Notes:
- One year of recent experience in GI within the past 5 years required. Work experience in a fast-paced detailed environment.
