The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) assures that care is delivered to all patients within established legal, ethical, laboratory, and hospital guidelines. They will be responsible for having excellent communication skills and exhibiting professional behavior at all times. Institute appropriate interventions according to department policy and procedure, facilitate patient flow, and communicate relevant information to the appropriate health care providers, the patient, and the family. Facilitate the use of the appropriate resources for support. Perform all laboratory procedures with accuracy, competently, with assurance that they have provided support documentation of the appropriate education and experience, and have received the appropriate training for the type and complexity of testing performed. Employees perform within the report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Officer of District hotline.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- An Associate’s degree in a Chemical, Biological, Physical science, or in medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent with registration/eligible as a Medical Technician or equivalent; with current registration through one of the licensed agencies is preferred, and/or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and eligibility for high complexity testing. - Be a high school graduate or equivalent and have successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupation specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY:
Medical Technician (MLT) Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent is preferred.
