Description
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing all laboratory analyses, instrument maintenance and calibrations, maintaining consumable inventory and sample retain storage. Internal relationships include frequent contact with Operators, Blender, Shift Superintendents, and Area Superintendents.
- Completes all required training (CBT’s, FPDE’s and specialized training) within the defined time.
- Obtains samples and performs laboratory analysis on designated products and process streams.
- Performs instrument maintenance and calibrations of testing equipment as needed.
- Distributes and retains samples according to laboratory guidelines.
- Records and reports test results as required.
- Maintains consumable inventory and sample storage inventory.
- Completes community air monitoring (CAM) when applicable.
This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of ASTM/IP/UOP testing procedures and testing skills required.
- Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science or technical degree preferred.
- A minimum 16 hours of college Chemistry or certified lab tester training accreditation preferred.
- Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Houston Refinery, required.
All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). It is Valero’s policy that employees must wear this card at all times while working at the refinery.
Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
