Staff Veterinarian in Large Animal Veterinary Anesthesia and Pain Management
Full-time, 100% (12-month basis)
Requirements: The successful candidate must have a DVM or equivalent degree, clinical experience with equine medicine, surgery, or anesthesia. Some experience with equine anesthesia is desired, and the successful applicant will have extensive large animal anesthesia training on the job with the support of veterinary anesthesiologists.
Duties: The University of Illinois has a high-quality integrated anesthesia and pain management service working collaboratively to achieve tripartite excellence in service, teaching, and research. The current anesthesia and pain management service at the University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine is comprised of a fun and dynamic group of three anesthesiologists, four house-officers, and twelve veterinary technicians. The anesthesia program has a long history of excellence in teaching, comparative research, and resident training, and practices the highest standard of anesthetic care for companion, production, and zoological species.
The clinical responsibilities of the successful candidate are to provide anesthesia and pain management for equine and farm species, oversee large animal anesthesia operations in conjunction with a VTS-certified veterinary technician specializing in anesthesia, and contribute to the on-call after-hours large animal anesthesia service on a rotational basis. Teaching responsibilities include providing clinical instruction to residents, interns, veterinary students, and veterinary technicians during clinical case management.
Salary: The budgeted salary range for the position is $105,000 to $115,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints.
