SUMMARY:
MAHLE is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to conduct physical inspections, prep/dimensional measurement of MAHLE components, tabulation of measurement data in formal reports and assist MAHLE Engineering on special projects on a regular basis. Must be able to operate high precision inspection equipment with minimal supervision, have knowledge in general laboratory methods/general metrology/measurement, maintain accurate sample identification, with strict adherence to lab/site procedures and accurate reporting of test results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Able to program/use a myriad of high precision machines such as CMM, surface finish, contour, profilometer, waviness, and form line machines.
- Measure, inspect, and record mechanical and physical properties, as well as the visual appearance of all evaluated components before and after testing.
- Maintain working knowledge of measurement equipment for test pieces and related items.
- Able to decipher technical drawings, understand the dimensioning & tolerances, and requirements as pertains to the desired measurement data.
- Understand outcome and decipher measurement results.
- Fully competent on computer skills, spreadsheets, data storage, folder maintenance, templates.
- Need to be self-motivated to learn all components, learn procedures, ask questions, and add to technical conversations in the lab on measurement data and techniques.
- Communicate and assist Engineers on special projects/testing and aids in the form of correct sample preparation, new testing and measurement techniques.
- Operate day-to-day work under the Laboratory Scope and Capabilities.
- Utilize and understand the established work order system to maintain and track work.
- Work with other staff members on activities such as inventories and ordering routine laboratory supplies including gages, tools, reference standards, chemicals and other lab supplies.
- Responsible for calibration schedules and service calls for respective equipment/gages.
- Understand and assist in updating/revising of respective laboratory instructions for new methods and capabilities.
- Prepare samples and/or specific parts to specified tolerances, samples and tests according to ASTM and/or other print specifications (Customer & MAHLE standards).
- Maintain laboratory storage files for all metallurgical mounts and samples in accordance with company policy.
- Maintain accurate records, develop spreadsheets, enter data and generate reports.
- Perform other related duties as may be required or assigned to maintain the operation of the Labs Department at its highest possible level of efficiency, effectiveness, and cleanliness.
- Complies with all company policies, procedures, safety guidelines and standards.
- Maintain awareness of, and meet, the requirements of the MAHLE Quality System.
- Must have good communication with supervisor, customers and other staff to support a cohesive work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's degree highly desired or HS Diploma with 5+ years related experience – preferably in automotive/aerospace/mechanical components industries.
- Prefer six months to one-year related experience in inspection lab conducting advanced metrology a big plus.
- CMM experience highly desired (Zeiss preferred) – set up/measure/analyze output.
- Experience running machines/high tech inspection equipment (micron level + / - 5 microns), utilizing gauges/micrometers/inspection equipment, run basic machine equipment.
- Need solid Computer skills - Microsoft Office and electronic folder maintenance for results required.
- Understanding of Technical Drawings and Tolerancing.
- Hands-on technical based person.
- Prepares and cleans tested samples/specific parts to specified tolerances, samples, and tests according to ASTM and/or other print specifications (Customer & MAHLE standards).
