Summary:
The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services within its Service Delivery Area.
Under the general direction of the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Behavioral Health Officer, the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide psychiatric care for adults, including medication assisted treatment (MAT) for patients with opioid use disorders, in compliance with Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Standards and The Joint Commission Standards.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue drugs and treatments for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
- Provide psychiatric services to clients in a clinic setting, including outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
- Collaborate with counselors, social workers, or other treatment team members to coordinate client care.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of medical records, including assessments and billing entries.
- Collaborate with relatives and guardians on clients' conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
- Prepare and submit assessments, progress notes, reports, and summaries to relevant entities as required.
- Make independent decisions based on protocols developed utilizing national guidelines for treatment interventions.
- Promote quality improvement and provide education to clinical staff when requested.
- Provide patient-centered care recognizing cultural diversity with respect to cultural and spiritual beliefs.
- Abide by all clinic policies, medical staff bylaws, and rules and regulations.
- Act in accordance with good citizenship and professional standards, contributing to the mission of Ponca Tribe of Nebraska.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Relationships and Authority:
This position has no supervisory duties.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
This position is in a professional office environment, routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, scanners, and photocopiers.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Active and unrestricted license as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
- Active DEA license.
- Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and insurable.
- Pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.
- Able and willing to travel.
Preferred:
- Two years of experience as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
- One year experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.
- Knowledge of Public Law 93-638, Indian Self-Determination Act.
Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe. However, all qualified individuals are eligible.
