Wonderful opportunity for a provider to work in an exciting environment with a great scope of practice. We are seeking a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a Cardiothoracic Surgery – Step Down Unit opening in Portland, Maine, joining a comprehensive Cardiac Surgery Program with 6 Surgeons and 18 PAs/NPs managing over 1300 cases annually.
Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week (7a-5p), one weekend per month. There is no call.
Opportunity: This position requires at least 2 years of post-cardiac surgical care experience.
Job Summary: The primary role is managing post-operative cardiac surgery patients in the Intermediate Care and Step-down unit. This is an inpatient-only position. You will earn full privileges to perform bedside procedures independently, including thoracentesis, chest tube placement, wound vac placement and management, and arterial lines.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Daily rounding, discharges, admission H+Ps, and consults.
- Work directly with the Cardiac Surgery Nurse Navigator and Case Management team to ensure a seamless experience from admission to discharge.
- Provide care for cardiac patients primarily in an Intermediate Care and Step-down adult unit.
The APP team works with a high level of autonomy with the Cardiac Surgeons to provide a high level of care in this innovative program. Cardiac surgery here is at the forefront of minimally invasive valve platforms, such as TAVR and advanced heart failure treatments, including ECMO and VADs.
