Posting Summary
Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Per Diem Physician Specialist for Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women, located in Clinton, NJ. The primary purpose of the Physician Specialist is to provide medical services to inmates of the Department of Corrections, which are consistent with community standards of care. Serves as liaison for clinical matters with medical providers outside of the system and be available to provide on-call services.
Duties include:
- Serves as the Medical Director of the site and supervises other physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners at the site.
- Reports to Assigned State Prison at designated hour to examine referred patients.
- Provides emergency care, routine medical care, preventive medical care and education to patients. Assures implementation and ongoing status of on-site chronic clinics.
- Refers patients to appropriate Physician Consults.
- Rounds daily in the infirmary as assigned and documents patient’s status in the progress notes of the infirmary medical record.

This position requires a full onsite work arrangement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Licensed physician in the state of New Jersey. Current DEA registration. Board certified, eligible, or qualified by the state laws/regulations to practice medicine.
- Experienced in primary care specialty.
- Valid Driver’s License. Possesses own vehicle or have alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
Special Conditions
Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
