Responsibilities and Duties
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner’s duties include, but are not limited to:
- Psychiatric Care: Provide primary psychiatric care for all residents in collaboration with child/adolescent psychiatrists.
- Quality Improvement Program: Maintain logs of physician reviews and consultations.
- Treatment Team: Attend treatment team meetings and co-chair when necessary.
- Admissions Exam: Conduct direct examinations for admissions and document medical appropriateness.
- Psychiatric Evaluation: Conduct evaluations on residents.
- Therapy: Conduct individual and/or group therapy.
- Consultations: Provide weekly consultations with each resident.
- Discharge Plans: Approve discharge and aftercare plans.
- Charting: Record progress notes at least monthly.
- Orders: Provide orders for medications and related services.
- Special Procedures: Provide orders for special procedures and participate in monthly reviews.
- Continuous Learning: Attend required trainings and maintain certifications.
- Clinical Supervision: Provide supervision to RN's and support staff.
- Committees: Participate in monthly committee meetings.
What You'll Need to be Successful
Ability to work independently with sound judgment and as a team player with all staff disciplines and adolescent residents.
Preferred Qualifications
Requires a Nurse Practitioner Degree in Family Psychiatric Mental Health or Child Psychiatric Mental Health, licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, and experience working with adolescents. National board certification and DEA licensure are preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Typically requires a Nurse Practitioner Degree in Family Psychiatric Mental Health or Adult Psychiatric Mental Health, licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, 0-3 years of experience, and nationally board certified.
