The microMechanics of Deformation (mMOD) group at Rutgers University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with interest and background in atomistic simulations, atomic structure analysis, and machine learning.
The research to be performed under this 1-year position is aimed at constructing a method and software library to analyze atomistic structures in atomistic simulation datasets. Under this position, the major contributions to this effort will be:
- 80 %: Execution of research tasks, including: algorithm and code development, literature review, development and execution of simulations using high-performance computing, analysis of simulation results, manuscript preparation, and presentation of results at technical conferences and workshops.
- 10 %: Leadership and mentorship within the research group, including: providing support and guidance to undergraduate and graduate students, assisting with troubleshooting of simulations and analysis, and brainstorming research ideas and concepts with other group members.
- 10 %: Support of research ideation, including: surveying and analyzing scientific literature, performing preliminary studies and evaluations of research ideas, engagement with potential industrial partners, and support in white paper and proposal preparation.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A Doctorate of Philosophy in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physics, or a related field is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A Doctorate of Philosophy in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physics, or a related field is required.
Equipment Utilized: Experience with programming in an interpreted language (e.g., Python or MATLAB) is required. Experience with programming in a low-level language (e.g., C++) is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: Office-based work environment.
Overview: Experience with materials modeling using techniques such as molecular dynamics and density functional theory, or similar, is preferred. Experience with machine learning (e.g., PyTorch) and high-performance computing is preferred.
Statement: This is a research position which will require critical thinking about abstract and advanced topics in science, engineering, and mathematics. Some job tasks will involve planning future research endeavors (e.g., proposal preparation). This position supervises undergraduate and graduate students in Materials Science and Engineering.
