Operating room surgical technician is an integral member of the multidisciplinary surgical team. The surgical technician acts as a scrub person, prepares and handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during a surgical procedure. He/She has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/She works collaboratively with other team members to assure quality patient care during the operative procedure. The surgical technician functions under the supervision of a registered nurse and participates in the on-call schedule for afterhours urgent/emergent surgical cases, unless otherwise indicated.
Lead Surgical Tech Educational Requirements/Qualifications:
- 2 Years of active scrub experience in all service lines with relevant competencies completed.
- Certification as a scrub tech (AST, NCCT or other equivalent) or LPN degree.
- Precept/teach all service lines.
