The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in compliance with the New York Practice Act, Standards of Practice defined by ANA, JCAHO, and organization protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. This position develops, implements, evaluates, and revises the plan of care based on the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patients and family. In addition, the Cath Lab RN collaborates with staff, physicians, and other disciplines to provide quality care.
Responsibilities:
- Performs comprehensive physical assessment of patient's clinical condition, psychosocial, and educational needs inclusive of family needs.
- Develops plan of care including educational needs.
- Implements plan of care safely and efficiently.
- Evaluates effectiveness of interventions, patient outcomes, and revises planned care accordingly.
- Collaborates with staff, physicians, and other health team personnel in the delivery of coordinated patient care.
- Participates in the quality improvement standards of the unit.
- Maintains clinical competencies.
- Maintains patient records to ensure accurate communication and continuity of patient's medical treatment and nursing care.
- Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to provide professional care delivery to patients of various ages and cultures.
- Assesses patient's physical and emotional response to treatment.
- Assists patient/family in coping with patient's illness.
- Attends all mandatory in-services and required staff meetings.
- Accepts accountability for education requirements pertaining to policies, procedures, and general patient care information, etc.
- Notifies physicians and appropriate personnel of acute changes in patient's condition.
- Documents all care planning and intervention in a comprehensive manner in accordance with policy.
- Delegates tasks to appropriate caregiver as defined in scope of practice.
- Participates in continuing education programs and in-service education in order to provide the most appropriate nursing care.
- Complies with hospital policies and procedures.
- Actively participates in the performance improvement process including data collection, analysis, plan for change, and implementation of changes.
- Precepts and mentors newer staff on the assigned unit.
- Attends staff meetings.
- May act as preceptor to new graduate nurses to ensure appropriate orientation to assigned units.
- Performs cardiac cath lab tasks such as intravenous catheter insertion, blood bank sample collection, portable oxygen tank setup, removal of arterial and venous sheaths, etc.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum 2 years' experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab and critical care preferred.
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing required; a bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
License/Certifications: New York State RN licensure required. Current BLS and ACLS required.
