SUMMARY: Assembles and maintains supplies, equipment and instruments for anesthesia setup. Maintains, cleans, and restocks equipment and carts. Performs preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative support activities to assist the OR team caring for surgical/procedural patients. Receives direction from an OR Anesthesia Technician Lead and Anesthesia Technician Certified.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Accesses schedules and medical records on computer.
- Prepares anesthesia machines and equipment daily.
- Follows standard work processes and procedures.
- Assists anesthesiologists with supplies for line placement – central, peripheral, PA catheter and epidural.
- Assists anesthesiologists with induction, intubation, difficult airway, regional anesthesia, and emergence.
- Ensures infection control procedures and aseptic technique are followed.
- Recognizes and responds to emergencies pertaining to airway issues, codes, and equipment needs.
- Evaluates and troubleshoots anesthesia machine, patient monitor, difficult airway and ultrasound equipment, and other equipment failures, breakages, and shortages working with dept managers, Clinical Engineering and IS to repair and/or replace equipment as needed.
- Maintains, cleans, and restocks equipment, difficult airway, MH, GlideScope, and procedural carts.
- Communicates with the Warehouse and Anesthesia Tech Lead to ensure that adequate supply levels are kept on hand; maintains inventory of anesthesia supplies.
- Assists in necessary preparations prior to surgery and room turn-overs as related to anesthesia.
- Assists OR team with transport to and from OR, positioning and monitoring.
- Comfortable practicing in all areas of the hospital serviced by the department of anesthesia.
- Transporting samples for lab tests and obtaining supplies for testing – ISTAT, blood gas, glucose.
- Reports to work as scheduled and on-time (per unit policies).
- Uses down time effectively.
- Maintains effective inventory control system including daily stocking, checks for out-dates, and monitoring of supply/specialty carts/rooms. Places or returns supplies, instrumentation, and equipment to designated storage locations.
- Assists in maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe work environment through the maintenance of egress corridors; organization and cleaning of work areas; performance of post-case/post-care cleaning following established policies.
- Processes instruments/scopes when requested and as the need arises.
- Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
EXPERIENCE: None required.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Knowledge of sterilization best practices and of a variety of anesthesia equipment.
