Job Description: Charge Nurse - Urology
The charge nurse oversees the operations of the Urology department while working alongside the team and physician. The primary role of a charge nurse is to ensure that all nursing and clinical functions within the department run smoothly, efficiently and meet compliance guidelines. This position also provides guidance and support to help staff through challenging situations as they arise. Like staff nurses, charge nurses are generally patient-facing.
This position reports to the Regional Director of Clinic Operations and Clinic Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Ensures staff adhere to workplace protocols and procedures.
- Acts as a liaison between the staff and physician.
- Responsible for training new clinical team members, and maintaining annual competencies and CLIA compliance.
- Creating and evaluating staffing plans and schedules.
- Assist with procedures and demonstrate current knowledge and skill in nursing practice to ensure safe and effective care for the patient population.
- Provide treatment and determine plan of care under provider supervision.
- Able to assess patients over the phone to determine plans of care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, employees, physicians and the public to promote a professional health care environment.
- Stays current on electronic health records (EHR) changes and ensures appropriate and effective documentation in patient records.
- Authorizes refills safely, efficiently, accurately and in a timely manner according to approved protocols.
- First call for after hours patient calls.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- At least 2 years nursing experience preferred with Urology or surgical specialty.
- 3-5 years of experience in managing staff.
- Current CPR licensing required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible in learning and handling a variety of duties.
