The Massage Therapist in the Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrated Therapies (ZCIT) applies massage, Reiki, and reflexology techniques on patients using established policies and procedures.
This position is 100% on site.

- Reviews patients’ medical history, lab results, and pertinent imaging results to develop individualized safe and effective treatment plans.
- Acknowledges and discusses limitations of, contraindications, and precautions for massage therapy and whether modifications are appropriate.
- Checks for sensitivities to lotions or oils that will be used for the session.
- Prepares the patient for the session by informing the patient of the treatment plan based on their goals and intended effect.
- Makes sure the patient is comfortable and feels safe prior to starting the session and throughout. Observes proper positioning, support, and draping.
- Performs massage therapy, Reiki, and reflexology techniques to reduce symptoms of illness and/or side effects of illness and treatment.
- Carefully inspects areas to be treated and records findings on to the medical chart or reports to a clinical supervisor as needed.
- Documents therapy sessions and maintains records in compliance with HIPAA regulations, Dana Farber policies, and MA Board of Massage Therapy requirements.
- Submits appropriate charges for massage therapy services.
- Makes appropriate referrals to the Zakim team or programs and to other medical team members based on need assessment or if service is beyond the scope of practice. Follows up with the clinical care team as needed.
- Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies, clinic operation protocols, and infection control procedures.
- Ensures a safe environment and maintains equipment and supplies in a clean, operable, and safe manner.
- Participates in regular staff meetings and attends conferences as directed.
- Keeps up with continuing education requirements for licensing and annual learning as approved by the department.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a licensed school of massage along with 3 to 5 years of experience working as a massage therapist are required.
- Experience with adult and pediatric cancer patients and/or chronically ill patients preferred.
- Massachusetts Massage Therapist licensure required through the Department of Professional Licensure.
- Board Certified, BCTMB preferred/eligible.
- Professional membership to AMTA: American Massage Therapy Association or ABMP: Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals preferred.
- Oncology Massage Fundamentals Education through Society for Oncology Massage preferred/eligible.
- S4OM membership preferred/eligible.
- Must possess strong knowledge of massage techniques, procedures, and basic anatomy.
- Must possess sound knowledge of indications and contraindications to massage.
- Must possess a basic understanding of health care clinical operations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with Zakim Center Staff as well as all other oncology interdisciplinary team members.
- Excellent time management and communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for learning and teaching.
