Under the direction of the Director of Athletics and the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer works directly with student-athletes in the prevention of athletic injuries; the recognition, evaluation and immediate care of athletic injuries; the rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries; and health care administration. Provides Athletic Trainer coverage at athletic activities. Assures appropriate maintenance of equipment and supplies assigned to the athletic training program; maintains records on examination and physical condition of student-athletes
Required Qualifications:
1. Baccalaureate degree in Athletic Training or a related field with relevant courses in anatomy, physical education, health or related topics.
2. 1-3 years of experience in athletic training or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
3. Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association and N.J. State (Athletic Trainer License) prior to the first day of employment.
4. Strong communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
5. Must have First Aid and CPR – professional rescuer certification prior to the first day of employment. American Red Cross or American Heart Association certification preferred.
6. Must be able to work flexible, irregular and long hours as required including mornings, evenings and weekends.
7. Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with the university’s Motor Vehicle Policy. A MVC check will be required at the time of hire and thereafter as deemed appropriate by the university. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the MVC check.
8. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
Preferred Qualifications:
Heavy non-traditional hours with weekends and some holidays.
