The role you’ll contribute:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for the provision of nursing care for a patient or an assigned group of patients under the supervision/direction of the Registered Nurse. The LPN assists with implementation and administration of the nursing process relative to the medical and nursing plan of care. The LPN uses the nursing skills of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in their patient care delivery functioning within the scope of the licensed practical nurse within the State of Illinois.

- Conducts a focused nursing assessment and contributes to the ongoing comprehensive nursing assessment of patients performed by the RN and assures the well-being of patients.
- Collaborates in the development and modification of the RNs comprehensive nursing plan of care, and implements aspects of the plan of care.
- Participates in health teaching to promote, attain and maintain optimum health level of patient.
- Participates in the evaluation of patient responses to interventions.
- Communicates and collaborates with other healthcare professionals.
- Administers medications via oral, topical, subcutaneous, intradermal and intramuscular, rectal and nasogastric/g-tube routes under the direction of RN and observes patients for effects, side effects, adverse reactions to medications.
- Performs activities related to peripheral intravenous therapy under the supervision of the RN.
- Performs point of care testing after competency and collects specimens.
- Educates patients/families about disease treatment plan including self-care post discharge, holistic health needs, available resources and follow-up care.
- The LPN shall not administer chemotherapeutic agents via intravenous routes, start or add blood or blood components, administer medications via intravenous push or administer heparin in heparin locks.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Graduation from an approved practical nursing education program
- Practical/Vocational Licensed Nurse credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date
- BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Within the scope of this job, requires critical thinking, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
