General Summary
This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses who have greater than 12 months experience. Provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team. Utilizes the institution’s care delivery and professional practice models as the frame of reference for practicing as a professional nurse.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education & Training: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, Bachelors preferred. Currently licensed as an RN in the State of Maryland. Certification in BCLS and ACLS required for OR nurse.
Skills & Abilities: Ability to: a) convey effective verbal and written communications; b) utilize basic assessment and critical thinking skills; c) organize and manage time effectively; d) make independent decisions consistent with current policies; e) adapt hours of availability to changing needs; f) effectively function as a member of a collaborative team; g) respond to emergency situations appropriately.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proactively participates as a team member in support of the total surgical process.
- Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management.
- Supervises and directs patient care in the operating/procedure room.
- Addresses patient needs specific to the surgical procedure.
- Transports patients to or from the operating/procedure room, as needed.
- Verifies planned procedure(s) with patient and discusses plan of care.
- Administers medication(s) per order of physician, documents appropriately.
- Ensures a correct sponge, needle, sharps, and instrument count (as applicable to the procedure).
