Position Summary:
The Histotechnologist prepares and processes tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. Incumbent will collect, accept and recognize specimens as they arrive in the lab, assist in the selection of appropriate fixatives, embed and cut sections, stain and mount on a slide of surgical, neurological, bone marrow, and autopsy tissue sections so that the presence or absence of disease may be effectively demonstrated to the Pathologist. Will prepare solutions and perform special stain techniques. Performs duties in the frozen section area as needed. Maintains laboratory inventory and equipment, and keeps Quality Control records of work performed.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization
- Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASCP certified or eligible histotechnologist
