Laboratory Supervisor, Pediatrics CEIID Research
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in basic science or equivalent with at least 3 years of research experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of experience as a research laboratory manager is preferred.
Job Summary:
Supervises the laboratory and provides the operational management, technical support, laboratory training, and mentorship related to research.
Job Duties:
- Procurement
- Prepare requisitions for laboratory equipment, research supplies, animals, and radioactive materials for department.
- Generate budget proposals for new laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Negotiate service contract pricing for department research instruments and equipment.
- Lab Management and Operations
- Conduct training for equipment usage and general laboratory procedure for new personnel.
- Maintain asset inventory of laboratory instruments and office equipment.
- Review and recommend improvements to laboratory equipment and infrastructure.
- Manage laboratory work orders and construction requests.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, Peoplesoft FMS, and Datamart.
- Compliance
- Maintain laboratory environmental health and safety compliance.
- Serve as proxy for laboratory safety audits in the department.
- Develop and coordinate the CEIID and Department of Pediatrics Emergency Response Plan.
- Oversee laboratory staff safety training.
- Facilitate Material Transfer Agreements for samples sent outside the institution.
- Coordinate shipping of laboratory specimens as required by protocol and per IATA requirements.
- Research
- Process and analyze pediatric nasal samples for respiratory pathogen targets.
- Generate research reports and present to management for review.
- Stay current with latest developments in lab techniques and technologies.
- Completed CITI certification required for IRB protocol approval.
- Develop and maintain experimental protocols.
- MARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTIONS:
- Take executive decisions regarding all research operations in absence of director/vice chair for research.
- Research facilities re-entry process after emergency shutdown, i.e., pandemics, hurricanes.
- Respond to specific requests by the Department Chair regarding organization, closure.
- Respond to specific requests by the Department Chair regarding organization, closure, reallocation of laboratories in the department.
Salary Range:
Commensurate with experience.
