Job Summary: Provides professional nursing care for assigned patients in the Surgery unit. Performs initial patient assessment and documentation prior to surgery, carries out pre-op orders and provides post-op recovery care.
Essential Functions:
- Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
- Performs and documents initial and ongoing assessments on pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Assists in patient education during all phases of the patient’s experience.
- Appropriately documents patient care.
- Evaluates and completes assessment of patient needs to provide supportive care before, during, and after surgery.
- Oversees admission, assessment and preparation of patients.
- Continuously monitors patients during the recovery phase.
- Provides discharge instructions to the patients and their caregivers.
Minimum Requirements: Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Michigan. BLS from American Red Cross or American Heart Association/ACLS. PALS certification within 12 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: BSN preferred. Two (2) years’ PACU, ICU or ER experience preferred.
Working Conditions: Potentially exposed to infectious diseases.
Physical Requirements: Constantly stand, sit, walk, reach, push/pull, see/visual acuity, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch, talk/hear. Frequently sit, reach, push/pull, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch, lift/carry 25 to 50+ lbs.
