Overview
24 hours per week on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays 8a-4:30p, with no weekends, no holidays.
This position is part of the Neonatology Follow Up Clinics, specifically located in our BPD Clinic. This position is currently listed as a 0.6 FTE, 24 hours per week. While planned days are Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays 8a-4:30p, days may vary during orientation.
BPD Clinic is an outpatient clinic that sees babies discharged from the NICU on oxygen or BPD required medications. The RN position involves seeing patients during outpatient visits and triaging ill phone calls during the day.
The Nurse Clinician will work within the Neonatology Service Line Outpatient Services with a focus in one or more of the clinics: Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) Clinic, Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) Clinic, Neonatal Follow-up Clinic, or Neonatal Multidisciplinary Clinics. Responsibilities include screening and identifying patients, establishing effective relationships with patients/families, assessing patient/family strengths and needs, developing family-centered plans of care, coordinating services, and monitoring progress. The Nurse Clinician also acts as a resource for the healthcare team regarding diagnosis, treatments, side effects, and current therapeutic trends.
Responsibilities
- Implements and supports the philosophy, mission, values, standards, policies, and procedures of Children's Hospital and the Patient Care Services Division.
- Performs care coordination core functions including screening, establishing therapeutic relationships, assessing strengths and needs, developing care plans, procuring services, and monitoring progress.
- Facilitates patient/family responsibility for managing their own healthcare.
- Assesses child/family needs for care coordination and identifies resources to facilitate continuity of care.
- Facilitates quality patient care in a timely and cost-effective manner while promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Acts as a resource for healthcare team members regarding diagnosis, treatments, and therapeutic trends.
- Coordinates health care and community resources to meet patient/family needs.
- Participates in clinical guidelines and outcome indicators for a given population.
- Collaborates with healthcare team members in identifying learning needs and providing instruction.
- Provides consultation for clinical practice and program development.
- Serves as a liaison between Nationwide Children's Hospital and the community.
- Participates in product identification, evaluation, and clinical testing.
- Evaluates peers for recognition and development.
- Provides input for policy and procedure development.
- Analyzes clinical trends and data for continuous quality improvement.
- Collaborates with program leaders to establish and maintain program goals and budget.
- Maintains accurate documentation in medical records.
- Serves as a patient/family advocate.
- Actively pursues education related to the nursing profession and specialty area.
- Maintains awareness of research affecting patient populations.
- Identifies educational needs and develops resources.
- Participates in orientation and continuing education of staff and students.
- Participates in ongoing education related to IT requirements.
- Facilitates ongoing educational needs of patients/families.
- Mentors clinical staff to foster growth.
- Supports and advances nursing practice through various activities.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio required.
- BSN required.
- Clinical skill and knowledge in the nursing care of children.
- Three years related clinical experience in area of specialty desirable.
- Effective customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
- Demonstrated leadership and teaching abilities required.
- Professionally appropriate analytical and organizational skills required.
