The Counseling Services office seeks an in-person Case Manager, reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, who is responsible for individual and group counseling, case management, crisis management, consultation, and intervention support. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
Case Management: 65%
• Coordinate overall interdisciplinary plan of care of students as related to students’ behavioral health
• Arrange for access and referrals to appropriate medical or mental health care
• Encourage and assist students to engage with treatment expectations and/or University expectations and address barriers and obstacles that may arise
• Research, develop, and maintain relationships with community behavioral health and medical providers for referral and consultation purposes
• Monitor and track students as they move through the referral process, including determining appropriate level of treatment, effectively bridging their care, and following up post-referral
• Foster and encourage developmentally appropriate self-advocacy skills in students to manage their academic, personal, and fiscal responsibilities
• Attend to the needs of students in crises with significant mental health problems, suicide, or substance use risk. Evaluate threat and assess risk to self and/or the community
• Attend weekly Student Affairs SSN meeting and work with campus partners to support needs of students of concern. Campus partners include Dean of Students, other Case Managers, Public Safety, etc.
• Serve as primary clinician for online students seeking support and referral assistance as needed
• Provide advocacy and support for students who require psychiatric hospitalization, including working collaboratively with hospital staff to develop appropriate discharge plans and assist in students’ transition needs in post-hospitalization process
• Provide individual or group supervision to Counseling Services’ graduate interns as requested.
Staff Clinician: 30%
• Provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention and case management services via in-person and telehealth sessions
• Provide crisis assessment and intervention, community outreach and education
• Participate in Counselor-on-Call protocol including weekends, after hours, break periods and holidays
• Assist with mental health related leave of absence and post-hospitalization processes for students in concert with Student Affairs to support their successful return to the campus community and academic programs
• Maintain clinical notes, monthly statistics, necessary clinical documentation, administrative forms, and electronic records in accordance with department policy
• Requires an understanding of the educational, developmental, cultural, and social needs of a diverse student population comprised of domestic and international students
• Collaborate with fellow Counseling Services staff on centralization efforts to ensure that services, policies, and procedures remain equitable and consistent across campuses and implement Quality Improvement initiatives
• Participate in individual and group supervision regularly as well as staff training and retreats
• Contribute to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment.
Student Affairs Duties (5%)
• Participate in University-wide committees and programming/events such as Orientation, Open Houses, Commencement, and other events as requested
• Maintain knowledge related to Title IX, FERPA and HIPAA regulations and response protocol
• Assist with clinical support and travel to other campuses as needed
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
• Ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
Required:
• Minimum of Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field
• Current licensure as LCSW, LICSW, LMHC or equivalent through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
• Obtain independent licensure in respective field within 6 months of eligibility
• Experience working with diverse populations including an understanding of the educational, cultural, and social needs of an international student community
• Ability to work extensively with electronic health records and MS Outlook
• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with members of the college community
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, possess ability to organize and prioritize tasks, tolerate interruptions to workflow and adapt to sudden shifts in clinical demands
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Preferred:
• Experience directly relevant to individual counseling and crisis management on a college campus
• Prior experience with delivering telehealth services
• Experience in serving in on-call capacity
• Experience supervising and training clinical staff or interns.
Physical Requirements:
• Typical office or administrative working conditions. Staff is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical demands.
• Ability to work on campus in person and some travel to other campuses.
