Job Description: Hyperbaric Technologist
Responsible for administering hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diagnostic testing to patients of the Hyperbaric Medicine Center under the supervision of a licensed nurse. All therapeutic and diagnostic modalities will be ordered by the hyperbaric physician.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES- Demonstrates a working knowledge of the policies and procedures of Hyperbaric Medicine
- Maintains competencies, continuing education and certification
- Able to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
- Deals effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
- Maintains confidentiality
- Demonstrates ability to organize work effectively
- Provides care that is appropriate to and respectful of patient's age, culture, and spiritual needs
- Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
- Ability to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology preferred
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES- Must complete a 40-hour introductory hyperbaric medicine recognized by American College of Hyperbaric Medicine
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certification as Hyperbaric Specialist within three years of hire (or when three years of experience has been obtained- whichever is earliest)
- CNA2 or Certified Medical Assistant preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE- Experience in acute care hospital &/or outpatient wound care center with hyperbaric medicine within the past two years preferred
- Prior experience working within an outpatient wound care setting preferred

Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements- Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
- Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs
- Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision
- Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects
- Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair
- May be required to lift up to 75 pounds
- Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids
- Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
- May require periodic use of personal computer
