Speech & Language Pathologist - Early Childhood Special Education
Job Description
Job Goal(s):
The job goals of the Speech & Language Pathologist are to provide direct service and consultative support to ensure timely and appropriate special education services for preschool age students in inclusive public preschool environments and Early Childhood Special Education Preschool programs. To provide consultative support to general education preschool staff on the development and implementation of targeted communication interventions for students not eligible for special education.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education :
Master’s degree in speech and language pathology required
Certification :
Michigan Speech and Language Pathologist License required
Work Experience :
Previous experience in evaluating the language development of
and providing consultative services.
Skills :
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of evidence based practices for speech and language intervention, including the Core Vocabulary board
- Working knowledge of curriculum and assessment measures used by GSRP and Head Start programs
- Knowledge of IDEA and Michigan Rules and Regulations
Essential Job Functions :
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with IEP’s placed in general education environments and ECSE programs in accordance with their Individualized Education Program.
- Actively participate with VBISD’s Early Childhood Intervention team to support staff and students enrolled in GSRP and Head Start programs county wide.
- Effectively collaborate with Head Start and GSRP to support students demonstrating a need for targeted intervention.
- Participate in/coordinate transitions with relevant providers in a variety of situations to include the following: A) from early intervention to preschool, B) between preschool programs and C) from preschool to Kindergarten settings.
- Serve as an IEP team member and chair IEP meetings.
- Take the lead on and/or participate in multidisciplinary special education evaluation teams.
- Effectively communicate, consult and team with parents, staff, agencies and others in a professional and timely manner.
- Keep up to date with best practices, research and trends regarding early childhood, early on and early intervention services in general and specifically as they relate to the scope of practice for speech and language pathologists.
- Adhere to Van Buren ISD and Early Childhood policies, process and procedures.
- Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines.
- Perform additional tasks, responsibilities and duties as assigned by the special education supervisor.
Terms of Employment : As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
