CT Technologist
Role Summary:
This role coordinates and produces high quality CT imaging of the radiation oncology patient by utilizing proper equipment, computers, and established techniques in a manner that promotes optimal radiation treatment planning.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Review prescription, simulation order, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification before performing CT simulation.
- Position patients for CT Simulation with accuracy, according to prescription.
- Prepare or construct equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, or protection devices.
- Ensure proper and safe use of CT scanning equipment.
- Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the performance of Computed Axial Tomography.
- Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others—ALARA.
- Follow CT parameters outlined in CT Simulation Protocol book.
- Perform simulation of anatomy as requested by physician in CT Simulation Order and prescription.
- Properly document simulation parameters and complete additional documents per policy in the EMR.
- Follow standard safety precautions and maintain cleanliness of equipment.
- Follow company tattoo policy for placing LAP markings on patient during simulation process.
- Ensure safe use of needles and proper disposal per OSHA guidelines.
- Check CT and simulation equipment to ensure proper operation following established quality assurance and warm-up procedures.
- Maintain the CT Daily Quality Assurance log book and report deviations to the physics department.
- Report machine and equipment problems following the established procedure.
- Assist physician in obtaining informed consent from patient or patient representative.
- Observe and reassure patients during simulation process.
- Respond to medical emergencies by calling 911 and notifying the physician, nurse, and supervisor on duty immediately. Document the time 911 is called and the time responders arrive.
- Educate, prepare, and reassure patients and their families by answering questions, providing physical assistance before and after simulation.
- Efficiently coordinate and plan patient schedule(s) to optimize resources.
- Interact with both internal and external customers professionally.
- Train or supervise students in proper CT simulation procedures.
- Assist other departments during downtime.
- Attend and participate in mandatory work-related meetings and training sessions.
- Assign tasks using the electronic medical record (EMR) to communicate pending work.
- Maintain a productive relationship with Physicians, therapy, physics, and dosimetry departments.
- Follow established practice patterns to ensure the timely readiness of treatment plans.
- Follow the code of ethics and practice standards set by the ARRT and ASRT.
- Comply with all licensure and certification requirements to perform job as required by applicable State licensing, ARRT, and company policy.
- Report work-related injuries to the supervisor immediately.
- Report unsafe equipment or work conditions to supervisor immediately.
- Attend and participate in regularly scheduled technical/clinical staff meetings.
- Acknowledge new or revised policies and procedures through in-service documentation form.
- Participate in OSHA related activities, including drills.
- Ensure that required competencies and mandatory training and compliance activities are completed as assigned.
- Notify supervisor of sick time before the start of next scheduled shift and days thereafter.
- Request vacation time in advance in order for the supervisor to arrange coverage.
- Monitor and stock supply levels of CT scan room and report to supervisor when supply orders are needed.
- Review expiration dates of all supplies in CT simulation room monthly and remove expired supplies from service.
- Clean and maintain water bath per manufacturer's guidelines and company policy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an approved School for Radiologic Technology.
- Current Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience in CT.
- State licensed (mandatory where required).
- Must be in good standing with all CE and license requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ARRT Registered CT Technologist.
