Position Overview
The Senior Occupational Health Nurse will support Navistar employees’ health and safety program through quality patient care, case management, and disease detection/prevention/treatment and health education.
Responsibilities
- Performs clinic functions within the RN scope of practice
- Oversees clinic operations – ensures adequate inventory levels of medicines, supplies and equipment are maintained, confirms standing orders for medications and immunizations are current
- Conducts office duties including appointment scheduling, phone/email communications/support and clinic record keeping
- Knowledge of worker’s compensation and disability case management
- Provide immediate care and assistance to employees reporting to medical for occupational accidents/injuries
- Communicate accident/injury reports to Management, Safety, HR as soon as possible
- Work with EHS to support risk reduction for employees experiencing potentially work related musculoskeletal symptoms.
- Supports the Medical Director as needed
- Provides initial assessment of employee injuries and ensures proper referrals are made
- Refers employees with identifiable limitations and/or health risks to appropriate resources
- Responds to plant-wide emergencies and performs other first responder duties
- Activates 911 emergency protocols when needed
- Conducts new hire drug (hair) testing, DOT pre-employment and random drug testing
- Under MD direction, assists with travel consultations and administers immunizations for employees (traveling abroad and other)
- With company physician, conduct basic ergonomic assessments and provides results/referrals to Safety Assist Safety in managing Respiratory/Hearing Conservation Program
- Provides appropriate health education and referrals to employees as needed
- Demonstrates awareness of adherence to legal requirements pertinent to employee health and safety
- Maintains employee health records in accordance with HIPAA, OSHA and company protocols.
- Updates and ensures compliance with Springfield Medical Department policies and procedures
- Provides case management and pertinent medical records in support to other regional sites
- Manage proper disposal of medical biohazard waste
- Supports Navistar DOT program - assists in the recovery of requested employee documentation per DOT requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- At least 2 years of occupational nursing experience
- Must have an active Registered Nurse license
- Must have a current American Heart Association Health Professional CPR card
OR
- Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN) certificate
- At least 4 years of occupational nursing experience
- Must have an active Registered Nurse license
- Must have a current American Heart Association Health Professional CPR card
Additional Requirements
- Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
