MAIN FUNCTION:
The Physical Therapist I is responsible for providing patient care for individuals requiring rehabilitation. The patient care is directed to the individual’s special needs in an effort to optimize their physical, functional, psychological, social, and emotional well-being.
This position reports to the Assistant Director, Rehabilitation Services under the clinical supervision of the Level II Physical Therapists and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide patient care based on standards of examination, evaluation, establishment of the Plan of Care including interventions, re-examination and revision and discharge planning.
- Provide timely documentation of all aspects of patient care in accordance with the department, hospital and state practice standards.
- Communicate with all patients and families, physicians, allied health team members and coworkers in a timely, courteous and effective manner.
- Function as a team member of Rehabilitation Services, responding with cooperation and flexibility at all times, to the needs of the patients, department, coworkers and hospital.May supervise Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) and student therapists in accordance with departmental, hospital and state regulations when assigned.
- Remain actively and punctually involved in non-patient care activities such as, scheduling, billing, upkeep, community outreach, etc. as required.
- Demonstrate professional qualities such as initiative, follow-through, personal responsibility and accountability, quality-oriented work and growth.
- Must be flexible to work other shifts, holidays and weekends as requested.
- Maintain treatment areas (including cleaning and stocking); alert appropriate staff for the maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, safety, infection control, compliance and environmental standards.
- Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
- Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.Identify own continuing education needs and demonstrate ongoing learning and professional development.
- Attend meeting as required.
- Perform other functions/duties as requested.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master of Science or Doctorate in Physical Therapy preferred
- Valid licensure as Physical Therapist in Massachusetts required
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification required
- Experience in ambulatory and acute care settings required
