Your Job: The Methodist Dallas Medical Center Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Liaison and pre-hospital coordinator will act as the liaison to affiliated EMS and pre-hospital agencies servicing the health care system catchment area. The EMS coordinator will be responsible for using critical thinking skills, coordinates pre-hospital communications with EMS Providers, and enhances the continuum of care by facilitating the flow of the patient from the pre-hospital setting, through the acute care setting and back to the community. Works with team members and administration to improve customer satisfaction and maximize results within the emergency department and throughout the hospital. Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to work process change, makes decisions and takes appropriate actions to solve problems. Originates, develops, or implements new methods to accomplish objectives by meeting the needs of our customers.
Your Job Requirements:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. (BSN preferred)
Licenses and/or Certifications (Required and Preferred):
- Advanced Cardio Life Support
- Basic Life Support
- TNCC (preferred)
- CEN (preferred)
Related Work Experience and Other Skills:
- Experience in EMS operations, EMS clinical education, and ability to evaluate the knowledge and technical skills of EMS providers.
- Ability to complete tasks in a satisfactory and timely fashion.
Your Job Responsibilities:
- Educational Resource:
- Assist Emergency Department Educator with staff training.
- Basic Life Support - CPR Instructor.
- AHA – Caruth Initiative Grant Education (EMS Champion).
- Assist Stroke/Cardiac/Trauma Coordinators as needed.
- Performing education on Code STEMI, Code Stroke, MCI, & Trauma drills.
- Provide educational assistance to local EMS providers.
- Coordinate paramedic CEs quarterly for ED paramedics as needed.
- Assist Materials Specialist with medical equipment training.
- Hospital representative for EMS school activities, EMS student clinical scheduling and contracts.
- Maintains all records of educational activities.
EMS/Emergency Department Complaints:- Receive and investigate complaints from EMS Providers, MHS Staff regarding EMS concerns.
- Initiate and complete follow-up interviews as needed.
- Provide and report all EMS related complaints to ED Administration as needed.
EMS/ED Research:- Assist ED and Hospital Administration with EMS and ED related research to improve EMS/ED relationships and hospital throughput process.
- Research EMS and ED EMS volume stats for monthly, quarterly and yearly reports.
- Creates & Maintains EMS Dashboards.
- Report pertinent research to ED Administration.
Meetings/Committees:- ED Leadership & Division ED Staff Meetings.
- Trauma Operations Meeting.
- Chest Pain Committee meetings.
- Code Blue committee.
- Hospital Community Liaison Meetings.
- Methodist Health System – Semi-annual EMS Meetings.
- Participates and attends North Central Texas – Trauma Regional Advisory Committee (NCT-TRAC) Zone 8 and Zone 4 Meetings.
- Will be a standing delegate for: Cardiac, EMS, Air Medic, Pedi.
- American Heart Association – Dallas Caruth STEMI Initiative /MLNTX quarterly meetings.
- Attend Biotel Meetings.
- Attend any EMS/Fire Dept. related events or meetings as needed.
- Coordinate, plan and host meetings and nursing /EMS conferences.
EMS & ED/Hospital Relationships and EMS Patient Experience:- Improve and maintain a good working relationship with EMS Providers through communication, collaboration, and education.
- Meet with EMS/Fire Dept. leadership teams and other EMS Liaison quarterly per year as needed.
- EMS/Fire Department station visits as needed.
- Follow up with EMS patients outcomes for all STEMI, trauma activations and CPR’s, code stroke activations.
- Obtain copies of EMS reports.
- Maintains EMS lounge and EMS printing equipment such as daily checks, stocking and upkeep of room and equipment/appliances in rooms.
- Maintains storage of EMS equipment and facilitates the return of all EMS equipment left at Methodist Dallas ED.
- Responsible to assist EMS Services with ongoing quality assurance processes as needed.
- Acts as a liaison between the ED STAFF and EMS for questions and concerns regarding clinical and professional interactions.
- Ensures that EMS Services provides the appropriate documentation of each patient brought to the ED.
Other Tasks and Duties:- Any assigned task or duties assigned.
- LifeNet Administrator - Operations and Training.
- Administrator EMS electronic medical records.
- Work with ED Leadership and Emergency Management Department to assist in developing mock MCI drills and other mock drills.
- Maintains MCI Disaster Drill closet and equipment.
- Will work in the Emergency Department assisting in patient care and within the scope of practice when the ED is experiencing high acuity or volume and/or at the request of the ED Manager.
- Will respond to CODE Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) when available while on duty.
- Assists the ED Manager with the overseeing of the Code MERT policy and response.
- Will develop and maintain dashboards for Code MERT’s.
- Will collect and oversee the documentation on all Code MERT’s.
- Will maintain & oversee the ED patient Follow up program.
- Demonstrates the key elements of service excellence and MHS core values.
- Is able to lead challenging conversations and successfully deal with day to day interactions with patients, families, visitors and customers in a positive consistent manner i.e., physicians, hospital staff etc.
- Maintains a calm empathetic, controlled approach at all times and consistently projects an image of Methodist Health System in a positive manner.
