Program Mission Statement
Empowering individuals who experience Co-Occurring mental wellness and substance use challenges to reclaim their lives, build resilience and cultivate lasting recovery through an all-encompassing personal approach.
Position Summary:
The APRN conducts psychiatric assessments; assesses physical health needs and makes appropriate referrals to community physicians; provides management and administration of medication in conjunction with the psychiatrist/teams/RN; and provides a range of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services. Psychiatric care will be provided for the residential dual diagnosis program and Intensive Case Management team.
Essential Duties:
- Collaborate with the mental health program team in sharing overall clinical responsibility for monitoring consumer treatment and take a lead role in coordinating and providing the team’s medication administration services.
- Conduct psychiatric assessments including psychiatric history (e.g., onset, course and effect of illness, past treatment and responses, and risk behaviors), mental status, and diagnoses; use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living; family structure and relationships; and physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians as necessary.
- Provide services in a variety of settings including in the community and within a residential setting. (i.e. client apartments, shelters, at Ballington House, etc.).
- Prescribe psychotropic medications; conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects; and educate clients and non-medical staff on medications and their side effects.
- Be actively involved in both acute and long-term psychiatric inpatient treatment of clients.
- Provide on-call crisis intervention during normal work hours.
- Participate in daily staff organizational meetings and treatment planning review meetings.
- Complete documentation and meet minimum service time based on the program’s requirements.
- Attends work on a regular and predictable basis.
Non-Essential Duties:
- Maintain good professional relationships with appropriate community figures, referral sources, and other professionals.
- Maintain and enhance professional skills and knowledge through attending conferences/ workshops/courses and reading professional materials that are relevant to job requirements and approved by the Program Director. Maintain all continuing education requirements in order to maintain the therapist's professional level and status.
- Demonstrate familiarity with and adherence to Utah laws regarding confidentiality and mandatory reporting requirements.
- Conduct professional life in accordance with the standards of his/her discipline and the clinical policies and procedures of the agency.
- Maintain familiarity with issues and trends in the behavioral health field including comorbid mental health issues, advances in psychopharmacology, theory, and evidence-based practices.
- Performs other functions as necessary or assigned.
Qualifications

- Current APRN license in the state of Utah with experience working in inpatient psychiatric settings.
- Experience working with individuals diagnosed with a serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder preferred
- Demonstrates an ability to use sound judgment within the scope of the position’s responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and adapt to change.
- Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, agency policies and procedures, and interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.
- Willingness to accept supervision and direction.
- Driving is a part of the job, must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver’s license, have a good driving record, and be insurable on the agency liability policy.
- Organized, detail oriented, self-starter.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail.
- Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel spread sheets.
- Must be able to pass Utah-DHS – Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Demands
- Ability to walk up and down stairs.
- Work is performed inside and outside of an office environment.
- Ability to move around the facility, interacting with clients for extended periods.
- Work is performed both in an office environment and in the community. May entail using a computer for extended periods of time.
