Job Summary:
Team oriented and collaborative, the Nursing Manager will be a key member of the Leadership Team, providing oversight to all nursing staff in all aspects of patient care, and accountable for the appropriate utilization of resources, professional practice, patient experience, performance management and engagement while developing creative, team-based approaches for management of the clinical programs. The Nursing Manager participates in the recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, training, and performance assessment of nurses, including the identification and remediation of performance issues when necessary. The Nursing Manager collaborates with all relevant stakeholders to optimize service delivery and ensure patients and staff are supported.
Job Function and Duties:
- Manages patient care processes that enhances patient-centered care, professional practice, and accountability
- Monitors and evaluates documentation of registered staff
- Oversee vacation requests and adequate coverage of nursing staff
- Work in collaboration with Team Lead to facilitate assignment of nursing staff to patients
- In collaboration with the leadership team, takes a leadership role in program development, improvement, and evaluation
- Develops and implements innovative action plans to achieve required performance targets and applies performance metrics to aid in decision-making and continuous quality improvement opportunities
- Fosters growth and development of staff, provides coaching and mentoring
- Provides a progressive and proactive approach to practice as per professional practice and corporate standards
- Models, listens, and assists with conflict and problem resolution
- Assists with orientation of new employees and agency staff
- Addresses patient/family concerns and follow up necessary to resolve the issue(s)
- Participates in the development and implementation of new processes or initiatives
- Is attentive to and intervenes on any patient safety issues observed.
- Adheres to the behaviours outlined in our policies and procedures that promote client safety
- Investigates, reports and addresses any patient related incidents, escalating as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Current RN or LPN registration, in good standing with the College of Nurses
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices and techniques including certification and experience in mental health and addictions required
- At minimum, 3 years relevant experience clinical and/or professional experience in mental health and addictions
- Experience working with patients with mental health and addictions, and in residential settings an asset
- Demonstrated comfort with technology and innovation in nursing practice
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, practice standards and best practice guidelines
- Demonstrated commitment to best practice and quality improvement
- Ability to function effectively and lead during periods of rapid change and transition
- Ability to remain calm under pressure; role models composure
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team both within EHN Canada and with external agencies.
- Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task in a fast paced, challenging environment, often with competing priorities.
