***The Department of Corrections is currently offering a hire incentive bonus of up to $15,000.00 to newly hired Mental Health Clinician 3. The incentive bonus will be paid in two equal installments, minus mandatory deductions. The first installment will be paid 90 calendar days after the first day of employment, and upon demonstrating an overall mid-acceptable performance rating. The second and final installment will be paid upon the employee's successful completion of the probationary period. Payments will be due within sixty (60) calendar days of such request. To receive an incentive, employees are expected to agree to a three-year term of employment with the Department of Corrections.***The Department of Corrections, Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Mental Health Clinician 3 - Traveling position at the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) located in Anchorage, Alaska.What you will be doing:Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Mental Health Officer, this position will:
- Provide direct mental health assessment and treatment services to mentally ill inmates in any of the department’s 13 correctional centers.
- Develop, implement, and maintain treatment plans for inmates assigned to caseload.
- Respond to referrals from staff and make appropriate recommendations, including conducting mental status examinations, clinical interviews, suicide assessments and risk assessments.
- Train and support correctional, medical and security staff regarding mentally ill and suicidal inmates.
Minimum QualificationsDoctoral degree OR Master’s degree from an accredited college in counseling, psychology, social work, child guidance, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field.

- Psychology: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of human behavior and performance in various contexts, mental processes, or the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
- Therapy and Counseling: Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of physical and mental ailments, and career guidance.
Special Note:Some positions require the incumbent be licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Professional Counselor. This requirement will be addressed in the job posting.
Who we are looking for:We are looking for an employee with the following desired strengths:
- Masters degree from an accredited university in counseling, psychology, social work or closely related field
- Experience working with chronically mentally ill adults
- Experience supervising staff and oversight of clinical programming
- Ability to work closely and collaboratively with medical and security staff
- Ability to motivate and work well with difficult, treatment-resistant clients
