NUWAY is currently seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to work in a full-time capacity based out of our 2118 NUWAY Counseling Center in Minneapolis.
This position pays $30.00 per hour for an LPN

Position Overview
This position works under the direct supervision of the Vice President, Residential Programs and the Registered Nurse Supervisor to oversee the contractual relationship with the Licensed Practical Nurse(s)(LPN) and other contracted medical personnel. The RN’s role is to supervise LPN’s and, in collaboration with each site leader and technicians ensure all NUWAY policy/procedures are being followed as well as NUWAY staff providing thorough and quality care. The RN trains all staff as necessary and any duties in the absence of LPN for all residential locations in the Twin Cities metro area. The RN must be able to maintain client confidentiality in accordance with state and federal guidelines and HIPAA requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the treatment planning for clients and work with staff to provide direct, quality care for clients in accordance with nursing practice standards, established policies and procedures, individual treatment plan and regulatory requirements
- Supervises weekly lectures and lecture program rotation and consults with Program Manager regarding client health education
- Administer medical/nursing services as appropriate. Monitors any medication error and trains/retrains staff accordingly
- Provide telephonic on-call counsel to program staff after normal work hours, typically scheduled one week per month
- Direct supervision of LPN’s to ensure compliance with NUWAY policy/procedures. Meets with LPN for weekly supervision re: training, personal and professional growth
- Conduct appropriate training assigned for all residential staff including mandatory trainings
- Responsible for all schedules for LPN ensuring coverage for both houses, including covering needs where necessary
- Help to manage client’s medical needs and act as a liaison with outside providers and community resources to improve client’s quality of care
- Participates, tracks and maintains Strategic Planning initiatives with Program Director and Program Managers
- Responsible for maintaining records related to Medication Errors, Incident Reports related to medical issues and client sick days
- Knows and follows program emergency procedures
- Works with Program Director regarding hiring, training, supervision and any disciplinary action/termination of LPN’s
- Understands and follows emergency fire and weather policies and procedures
- Responds to client emergency medical needs, when required
- Attends treatment groups and other client and staff meetings as directed by Program Director
- All duties of LPN in the absence of LPN on staff including but not limited to: Filing, making copies and faxing and must be fluent with electronic health records
- Communicate with families, referral sources, and outside healthcare providers in a professional manner
- Provide culturally sensitive and relevant services to diverse clients and their families
- Other duties as assigned or required
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:
- Must be a current Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota
- Must be age 18 or older
- Must have current First Aid/CPR Certification obtained within 30 days of starting work
- Must be able to pass Minnesota DHS background study.
- Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds
- Possess maturity, patience, understanding and empathy with recovering individuals and work with a multidisciplinary team
- Physical Demands: Sitting for extended periods of time. Daily use of general office and/or residential facility equipment. Lifting (max 25 pounds), minimal reaching, bending and stooping. Ability to effectively navigate program or office environment such as ascending and descending steps, passing through doorways and entrances, and accessing program/office facilities
- Conducts self in a professional manner
- Possess excellent oral and written communications skills
- Competent computer skills and able to effectively enter information in various systems
Preferred:
- Two or more years of experience with a working knowledge in the field of substance use disorder and/or mental health
