A Brief Overview
Performs a variety of clinical supervisory functions including leading and coordinating the daily clinical operational activities of the unit and personnel functions. Ensures the delivery of quality patient care by holding staff accountable to established patient care and regulatory standards. Interprets policies and procedure to nursing staff and patients/families. Builds, maintains, and supports a culture that fosters effective working relationships within a safe working environment.
Essential Functions
- CLINICAL OPERATIONS: Leads and supervises the daily clinical operational activities of the unit to ensure that quality care is delivered efficiently, including managing patient flow, overseeing patient care delivery, coordinating admissions, discharges, transfers, and responding to unforeseen events.
- PEOPLE LEADERSHIP: Supervises nursing staff, including recruitment, hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers, schedules, and performance evaluations. Supports retention of staff and oversees the onboarding process for new employees.
- COMMUNICATION: Maintains an environment of trust, fairness, consistency, and confidentiality with team members and customers. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
- QUALITY, COMPLIANCE, and SAFETY: Supports quality patient care by holding staff accountable to established standards. Promotes a safe, therapeutic environment and responds to patient and staff concerns.
- BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS and SERVICE: Builds and maintains effective working relationships. Manages conflict and identifies service recovery strategies.
- Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited college or university is required.
Experience Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience, including one year in pediatric nursing is required.
- Previous supervisory or lead experience is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure, and perform under stressful conditions.
Licenses and Certifications
- Current and valid Nebraska RN license or RN Compact license is required.
- Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
- Current and valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 180 days is required.
- Current and valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (ED and CCU only) within 180 days is required.
- Current and valid Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification (NICU only) is required.
