The Veterinarian position will oversee the health of all animals at St. Louis County's animal shelters. This position requires on-call and weekend hours as needed. These requirements can be negotiated with the candidate upon start date.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the health of all animals at St. Louis County's animal shelter.
- Determine nature of and treat health conditions in animals medically and/or surgically.
- Perform spay/neuter operations as required.
- Perform euthanasia procedures as required.
- Perform necropsies on animals to determine cause of death and oversee investigations to control and prevent communicable diseases between animals and humans.
- Maintain and monitor controlled drug supply as required by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
- Prepare reports and maintain veterinary records and files for compliance with state statutes and policies.
- Adapt practices to ensure the most current approaches to animal health and welfare are implemented.
