The purpose of this position is to manage the animal population and control diseases spread by animals. This is accomplished by enforcing the public health code; capturing and impounding unlicensed, stray animals; and enforcing the public health code. Other duties include providing health and safety information to citizens and the general public.
- Enforces ordinances and public health codes by patrolling for loose and stray animals; investigating code violations; issuing citations; and providing testimony in legal actions.
- Protects the general health of the community by responding to citizen complaints about stray animals or other animal threats; apprehending stray animals; and investigating bite cases and reports of animal cruelty.
- Controls the spread of disease by capturing, euthanizing, and preparing specimens for analysis.
- Provides information to citizens about animal care and codes by meeting with citizen groups; visiting residences; and distributing educational materials.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of related experience working with animals
- Knowledge of techniques for the control and euthanizing of animals
- Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations regarding animal control and animal cruelty
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officials
- Skill in the operation and use of standard office software which includes databases and presentation programs, along with standard Microsoft products
